Founded in 1980 by the PS 87 Parents Association as a service of PS 87's working parents, the PS 87 Afterschool Program has grown over the last 29 years to be one of the most innovative and talked-about programs on the Upper West Side.

Today, under the supervision of the PS 87 PA, the Afterschool Committee celebrates its 29th year of operation with quality enrichment to more than 450 PS 87 students five days a week. The program operates on the premises of the PS 87; a few classes, such as skating, City Sports and City Adventures, and Parks and Museums classes, meet off-site but leave and return from PS 87. Our program is fully insured and professionally managed.

The PS 87 Afterschool Program is governed by a standing committee of volunteers from the PS 87 Parents Association; day-to-day operation is under the supervision of a professional director, and a staff of trained early childhood teachers and assistants.
