Welcome to the Parent Corner! The PS87 Afterschool Program is exciting, educational and fun for the students who participate. The Parent Corner is the place where parents can get information, ask a question or tell us a story about their family’s experience in 87 Afterschool.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) are posted for general information. The Parent Corner will answer questions that you pose (email us here) and post those that seem to be important for the community to know.
Give us your ideas; the Parent Corner should be a reflection of what you want to know and a place to share wisdom for the most important job we all have: raising children.

Below you will find our Day-to-Day operation procedures, and a brief outline for emergency procedure.
Kindergarteners are brought to their meeting classrooms by their teachers; all other children come to the cafeteria with their classmates after dismissal at 3:20 PM. Afterschool staff members welcome the children, provide a simple snack, and take attendance. For security reasons, children may not leave the school building before going to Afterschool.
At 3:30 students are escorted to their specific club sites by their club instructors or assistants. Most clubs meet within PS 87; a few clubs, such as skating, have activities off-site, but all classes return to PS 87 for dismissal.
Club sessions run from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM, Mondays to Fridays.
At the conclusion of the club sessions, Kindergarten children are escorted to specific designated classrooms for quiet supervised play. Older children are escorted to the auditorium. From 5:00–5:45 children may opt to play quiet games or watch a movie in the auditorium or sign up for supervised free play in the gym every day except Wednesday. The school library is also open for PS 87 teacher-supervised homework time or quiet reading until 5:45 PM.
Children may be picked up anytime from club dismissal until 6 PM. From 6:00 PM until 6:30 PM coverage is available for $1 per minute, payable in cash at pick-up. If you know you are running late, please make an effort to notify the staff by calling the lobby phone (917-817-4084).
The Afterschool Program does not have access to emergency data from the daytime school. Communications about changes in Afterschool pickup should NOT be sent to the daytime teacher. Contact the Afterschool office 212-873-0490 or email Info
A completed emergency form MUST be on file with the Afterschool Office. You should list other adults in addition to yourself to be contacted in case we are unable to reach you. Please be sure that the Afterschool program is aware of allergies and other health issues that could impact on your child’s participation in Afterschool activities. The PS 87 Afterschool Program does not have a nurse on staff. Therefore parents/guardians must make arrangements for medicine to be administered by themselves or their agent. The Afterschool Staff is not medially qualified to give out medication and will not do so under any circumstances. Please discuss any medical condition your child may have with the Director. The staff can administer ice or bandaids for minor injuries. Every effort will be made to contact you should your child become ill or injured. If a parent/guardian cannot be reached, 911 will be called and the child will be taken to the appropriate hospital.
